Oct. 9th, 2007 03:23 amA Hardknock Life for the Elderly Non-heterosexuals, too
I cannot say that this totally surprises me, after I come to think about it. Tolerance of any sexual orientation that deviates from the heterosexual "norm", is still rather limited...particularly for the people within these age groups. In this context, I believe that there should certainly be some form of anti-discrimination laws...in terms of the careproviders. Many of the people who check-in to these places, are clearly approaching (if they have not already arrived there) the closing chapter of their life. I have always perceived that such years are cherished, especially since it's a benison to have so many years accrued to one's life. Hypothetically speaking as if the anti-discrimination laws are actually put into effect, as I see it, this would only affect the quality of care that the non-heterosexual residents are given. This would not bridge the schisms in these places...this would not be absolutely conducive to a change in heart. So it basically just sucks for elderly gay people who need this sort of care. The closed-minded attitude, which is unabashedly projected, is to blame for the depressions and suicides that come about in these places. Anti-discriminatory laws can be beneficial...but only to a limit.
I really hope that I will not have to end up residing in such places, especially since my generation is more aggressive and prone to violent reactions. It's somewhat frightening to ponder on the types of people with whom I'd reside...how prone are they to violence? How tolerant or intolerant of my presence are they? How mentally unstable may the person be? One gay man was transferred (following residents' requests) to a room of demented residents. Though, for all that I know right now...I can only hope to be still alive at 27.
Omfg. Awesomnity. It's been three months and there are still parodies of Tay Zonday being created and propagated throughout the internet. ♥
Wow, not bad. Not bad at all, actually! Minus the interjectional "blah blah blah."
Oh my fucking goodness. I just died, while cachinnating my fucking ass off. Omfg...though he clearly falters at the end.
There was another video that I was going to embed into this entry, but the guy (who was hot) had disabled embedding. I WANTED TO PRACTICE MY JAPANESE LISTENING SKILLS...or the lack thereof. Actually, since his accent is distinguishable from a native Japanese speaker's accent, so it was considerably easier to understand fragments of what was being said.
